Murder on the Hour,#7Penny Brannigan Mystery by Elizabeth Duncan
***** 5 stars
What a fun cozy this turned out to be!! Elizabeth Duncan, in Murder on the Hour, brings back amateur sleuth Penny Brannigan and her spa partner, Victoria. DCI Gareth Davies is retiring and Bethan is in charge of the latest murder in a small town in Wales.
Small town or not, big- time excitement visits when the Antiques Cymru comes around. Similar to the American Antiques Roadshow, all the villagers scurry to bring something they think may be of value. Surpassing the biggest surprise of valuables examined though, is the murder of one of the town's single ladies. A few requisite quirky characters are involved, a love triangle set up, and Wales is charmingly presented.
This is a series I want to go back and read from the beginning. If all the other books are as good as this one,I've missed a lot. This was book seven, but there was enough back story that I had no problem keeping up with events, places and people. I never thought I would want to visit Great Britain, but Duncan makes Wales so very appealing with her great descriptions. The secondary mystery played nicely into the first and kept the novel moving along at a pleasant pace.
Other than the murder, Wales sounds idyllic...I may just take my own inspector with me when I go to visit...just in case!!
I gratefully received a ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
